Coaching Code of Ethics
THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBES THE CODE OF ETHICS ALL COACHES FROM THE KINTSUGI INSTITUTE AGREE TO FOLLOW. QUESTIONS REGARDING, OR PRECEIVED VIOLATIONS OF THIS CODE OF ETHICS MAY BE DIRECTED TO admin@kintsugi.institute
Confidentiality and Record Retention
Coaches must respect and protect the confidentiality of all client information. All client records, whether physical or digital, must be stored and retained securely, using the latest technologies to ensure privacy and data protection. Information shared by clients is strictly confidential, except when disclosure is required by law or with explicit client consent.Professional Integrity
Coaches are committed to maintaining honesty, transparency, and authenticity in all professional interactions. They must not misrepresent their qualifications, experiences, or services offered.Respect and Dignity
Coaches must treat all clients with respect, dignity, and fairness, regardless of background, beliefs, or personal characteristics. Discrimination or bias of any kind is unacceptable.Competence and Continuous Improvement
Coaches are committed to ongoing personal and professional development, striving to improve their coaching skills and knowledge continually. Coaches should only practice within their areas of competence.Client-Centered Focus
Coaches should prioritize the needs, goals, and growth of their clients, providing a safe, supportive environment for exploration and development. They should avoid imposing their own agendas on clients. If the value of coaching changes for the client, or if the coach is no longer able to facilitate meaningful progress, the coach will transparently discuss these concerns, recommend a transition to another coach if appropriate, and, if necessary, respectfully end the coaching relationship to support the client’s best interests.Conflict of Interest
Coaches must avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any situation that might influence their coaching relationship with a client. Dual relationships, such as coaching friends or family, should be handled with transparency and professionalism.Boundaries and Professionalism
Coaches are responsible for setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients. They must avoid any relationships or behaviors that may blur professional boundaries or harm the coaching relationship.Integrity in Advertising
Coaches must represent their services accurately and refrain from making exaggerated claims about outcomes. All marketing and advertising should be honest and align with ethical principles.Ethical Use of Tools and Techniques
Coaches are expected to use coaching techniques, assessments, and tools ethically and responsibly, ensuring they are appropriate for the client and context. They must avoid using techniques for which they lack adequate training.Reporting Ethical Violations
Coaches are responsible for reporting any unethical behavior or violations of this code, either within or outside the practice, in a manner that upholds integrity and professionalism.
